In my opinion, emotional attachment can be a good thing as well as a bad thing, it all depends on the context. On the one hand, you have to be passionate about what you do for a living but on the other hand, when it’s time to exit (aka sell your domains or websites), letting emotional attachment cloud your judgement would be a mistake.

Today’s post will be very short and I just thought I’d write it to make it clear that there are two investments people don’t pay enough attention to: the chair they sit on and the mattress they sleep on. All in all, most individuals spend over 50% of their life sitting in a chair + sleeping on a mattress, so why are these two investments (yes, investments) frequently overlooked?

In life, I’d advise against being the type of person who *only* thinks about negative aspects but on the other hand, not being realistic can have repercussions which can be just as severe. As someone who earns a living online, you’re constantly bombarded by the two extremes and that’s dangerous to say the least.
Both extremes cloud your judgement.

There are a lot of great ideas on the Internet and there are a lot of blatantly stupid ones. It’s hard to figure out what the #1 most stupid idea is because there are so many contenders but Adblock is definitely one of the most powerful candidates. The concept behind Adblock is not only stupid, it’s also extremely dangerous because it makes people think that ads = bad and that’s ridiculous!

There are more young and very young people involved in Internet-related industries than in offline businesses, so I hope some of you will find my advice useful. I keep in touch with a lot of young entrepreneurs as well as domainers and certain things related to their stories are often similar.
When you’re making money at a young age, the temptation to spend on “lifestyle”-related things is hard to resist.
Or instead of calling them lifestyle-related things, let’s just broadly refer to them as depreciating assets.

Occasionally, when you’re selling something (not just domains) and the other party doesn’t agree with the price you quoted (for example), he or she ends up resorting to insults. I run online businesses, I invest in domains so as a domainer as well as an entrepreneur, I often have to deal with assholes.

As mentioned in yesterday’s post, Black Friday is becoming popular in my country as well. I have waaaaaaay too much “stuff” as it is, so I don’t really need any new gadgets/TVs/whatever right now but as an entrepreneur, observing the phenomenon and comparing it to the US version was interesting to say the least.

Dear Sedo,
Once a month, you’re running the GreatDomains event and as I’m sure you’ll agree, most of the buyers (the overwhelming majority) are domainers. If that’s the case, why aren’t you advertising on domaining websites?

After many years of “meh… what we have is good enough”, I’m glad that people are starting to finally innovate again. New solutions such as Frank’s DomainNameSales.com impressed everyone, existing companies such as Sedo/Afternic upped their game through the MLS introduction, GoDaddy finally paid attention to what domainers wanted and the list can go on and on.

In the past, premium listings pretty much worked like this: if a domain was sold, they’d send you a check… eventually. It took ages until the seller got paid and the entire arrangement showed a clear lack of respect towards domainers in my opinion. All of this changed and as some of you already found out, GoDaddy introduced new payment options as well as (considerably) faster payment timeframes.
