Smartphones Can Only Do So Much

Am I the only one who finds them utterly useless for *real* work?

Mediocrity = Bad Idea

Posted on 17 July 2014 by Andrei

I think a lot of new gTLD registry operators rationalized their fears away by saying something along the lines of “ok, most strings won’t be smashing hits but we’ll still break even in a reasonable timeframe” instead of trying to come up with ways to innovate.

The problem is this: even relatively soon in the game, we’re starting to see extensions with only a low 3 figure number of registrations after the first day of General Availability.

The Things We Take for Granted

Posted on 09 April 2014 by Andrei

Nowadays, if you tell someone to be grateful for electricity or Internet access, you’ll probably get laughed at. Most people, especially tech savvy crowds like online entrepreneurs or domainers, tend to take these things for granted. But just stop for a moment and think about what would happen if you’d end up let’s say losing Internet access for one week. That’s it, just seven days.

An Overvalued Euro = Huge Problem for European Domainers/Entrepreneurs

Posted on 11 March 2013 by Andrei

During the 2000 – 2002 period, one Euro was worth less than a Dollar and that made sense. After all, the Dollar is the world’s reserve currency and it has been around for a considerably longer period than the Euro. But something happened and during certain periods of 2008, the Euro ended up costing almost 1.6 Dollars.

Be a Giver, Not Just a Taker

Posted on 22 February 2013 by Andrei

If you can help someone, do it. A lot of times, the little things count.

If you notice that a domain a friend/contact of yours most likely wants is on the market (maybe that first person’s first+last name combo, for example), let him or her know.

There’s No Such Thing As Bad Publicity?

Posted on 06 February 2013 by Andrei

… yeah right!

Let’s assume you’re selling, I don’t know… coconuts.

Great.

Now let’s assume someone got sick after eating one of your coconuts and that the story has been picked up by all local TV stations, newspapers, websites and so on.

“I Don’t Know”

Posted on 04 February 2013 by Andrei

As domainers and/or entrepreneurs, we’re often tempted to adopt an “I know everything” mentality. After all, we’re involved in the world’s most dynamic industry and all that. We’re smart, we’re ambitious… but we don’t know everything. We just don’t.

Sleep

Posted on 30 January 2013 by Andrei

… yes, this post is about sleep. In 2013, I decided that it’s time to start sleeping like a normal person. As you know, I’m not from the US and since I’m in a different time zone, it’s easier (in most cases) to communicate with others by basically “adopting” the US time zone.

Quick Friday Tip: Abundance

Posted on 24 January 2013 by Andrei

A lot of times, being genuinely helpful can be extremely profitable. You might just be making the best investment of your career… without knowing that you’re making an investment. A lot of people adopt an “I can’t be bothered to…” selfish attitude and it’s an understandable human instinct. But don’t make the mistake of underestimating the importance of networking.

Idiocracy?

Posted on 16 January 2013 by Andrei

Is it just me or is the general population becoming dumber and more shallow with each day that passes? In my own country, we had *one* TV station which was considered tabloid-ish a few years ago and everyone made fun of it. Now, *all* TV stations (ok, almost) are like that. I don’t live in the US but I’ve been following the US entertainment industry as well and it seems the situation is similar.
