Finally a big TV campaign for a nGTLD. Will it move the needle?

Posted on 07 February 2018 by Graham Haynes

Often bemoaned by new gTLD supporters that no marketing dollars are being invested to raise awareness. There has been reluctance from the registries to spend big on TV ads because deep down they believe it will be like pushing a piece of string uphill. Instead, they have concentrated on discounts and getting eyeballs when the end user searches for available names on the likes of Godaddy.

Well MMX the operator of Dot London have pushed a national TV campaign in the UK and on the 2 largest paid for by ads channels here ITV and Channel4. No obscure satellite niche channel, this is mainstream.

The TV Ad campaign started last week.  Dot London has been very stable since its launch in 2014 and continues to have between 60k and 80k registrations. It also has a tie-up with EPIK who is promoting the space and looks to sell premium names. Worth noting MMX has been going through a strategic review, in plain English looking for a buyer over the last 9 months, this may be a push to get the numbers up and do a little window dressing. The BODs at MMX have vented their frustration about the strategic review when reporting interim results last week.

The death of domaining is on the horizon

Posted on 07 February 2018 by NamePros Daily

Today: .tv ccTLD market – Thriving or diving? / .life investment discussion / Domain names are a decentralized technology / And more!

Here are the new domain discussions and domain news.

How to sell a domain asset to a company with the hyphenated version – Have you ever tried this? How did it go? Do you have some tips, tricks, or strategies you can share to help walk newer investors through the steps?

FlowerDeliveryReview.com – Affiliate Possibility or etc – I’m just not feeling how the three words in FlowerDeliveryReview.com play together. Maybe if it was plural it would be better? What kind of value do you think this 3-word singular has?

WatchCoins.Com – Seriously? WatchCoins.com? While I can see that it’s meant to be developed into a site that monitors an assortment of coins in one place for convenience, I’m just not seeing why it would have value with all the crypto/coin markets crashing. What do you think it’s worth?

Domain names are a decentralized technology – Do you agree that domain names are a decentralized technology and on it’s way to being replaced by new technology soon? I’m just not buying it, are you?

.tv ccTLD market – Thriving or diving? – Now this is an interesting discussion/debate about the ccTLD .tv extension. If you are a .tv investor or thinking about investing in .tv domain names, this is the discussion you want to be involved in.

.life investment discussion – Do you own any .life and want to share your investment? Looking to discuss the .life extension in more detail and share stats with other .life investors? If so, then this is the discussion for you.

The death of domaining is on the horizon – There is some crazy talk about domain investing losing momentum and crashing like it was a cryptocurrency or something. I don’t think there is any accuracy to the report. What do you think?

Much Ado about emotions. Why ADO.com was lost

Posted on 05 February 2018 by Graham Haynes

Cognitive Bias

Our own Francois Carrillo lost a UDRP for the domain ADO(.)com and has been ordered to transfer it to the Mexican bus company who operates on ADO.com.mx.

We can hear the outcry across the domaining world – give the panellists the dunce award; how could they come up with such a bad decision; why are they so gullible, can they not see that domaining is a legitimate and accepted business model. What were they thinking, it makes no sense.

Well let me make sense of it: it is wrong to think the panel had a bad day or that they didn’t think it through or they are stupid. It is the complete opposite because to apply the policy rules and then to come to their verdict, they had to perform intellectual gymnastics. Later I will explain why they went to such lengths.

casino on steroids

CashBet.com is the first casino platform built around crypto coins. You convert your cash into cashbet crypto coins at 0.5 USD each and play your favourite casino games. Winnings are then converted back from the crypto-coin into cash instantly, in a similar manner to casino chips in the real world because there is no centralized processing and all based on the ethereum blockchain.

DomainingTips + NamePros Partnership, New Twitter Account & TLC :)

Posted on 02 February 2018 by Andrei

Well, it seems DomainingTips is once again receiving some much-needed TLC!

Graham and I are trying to slowly get back to posting more frequently, we’ve partnered up with NamePros to bring you the NameProsDaily posts and I have to say, Eric from NamePros is one of the hardest workers I’ve come across! Really excited about everything he’s doing, positive, you name it!

He went ahead and even created a DomainingTips-only twitter account where all new DT posts will appear, please follow when you get a chance to btw.

Have to say, I’ve missed blogging and while I’m still nowhere near ready to commit to a regular blogging schedule, I’m getting there. After my new book is 100% ready for the spotlight and I organize some things better in my professional life (easier said than done!), I’ll finally be able to dedicate more time to DomainingTips and of course to my YouTube.com/OneMinuteEconomics channel, which is growing quite nicely but more on that later this month, when I’ll try to put together a case study update. That’s it for now, take care guys!

We are doomed. The end is nigh…..Doomed Domainers

Posted on 01 February 2018 by Graham Haynes

Domainers are doomed

Since NamesCon 2018 the blogs and Namepros have been a washed with negative comments about the state of the industry. China crash, nGTLDs, poor auction results, Crypto coins sucking in dollars. A general malaise of depression.
I am much more optimistic because the underlying values are stronger than ever. Let’s take China
