Yes, I know this is a domaining blog but today, I’d like to refrain from talking about five number dot horse domains and cover perhaps the most important historic event of the 21st century so far: the fact that in the United Kingdom, citizens have voted to leave the European Union.

I will never ever understand why people keep domains there.
They’re slow to respond, they make moving domains out a hassle and last but certainly not least, they’re uncooperative when it comes to stolen domains, as documented on several occasions on various blogs/forums.

Short domains have been a blessing for our industry but from certain perspectives, also a curse.

At first, I have to admit I didn’t “get” short domains. Quite frankly, I still don’t get numerics for example from an end user perspective.
But as time passed, I realized it doesn’t matter what I “get” or what I “want”, it all boils down to what the market wants.

As a lot of you have noticed by now, DN.com is down. Down as in literally down, “Can’t reach this page” message and all that good stuff. No “We are undergoing maintenance” template, no explanation page, nothing.
This is beyond ridiculous/unprofessional and it’s things like this which make it clear our industry is still in its infancy.

I’ve noticed this for several months: I transfer a domain from its current registrar to GoDaddy but after the transfer has been finalized, the whois info isn’t updated. In other words, the domain keeps the old whois info.

One of the things that bug me about registrars is that even in 2015, the “domain I no longer own still appearing in my account” problem still appears with certain companies. It’s very frustrating to see domains that you now are no longer in your possession appearing in your account.
