Finally a big TV campaign for a nGTLD. Will it move the needle?

Posted on 07 February 2018 by Graham Haynes

Often bemoaned by new gTLD supporters that no marketing dollars are being invested to raise awareness. There has been reluctance from the registries to spend big on TV ads because deep down they believe it will be like pushing a piece of string uphill. Instead, they have concentrated on discounts and getting eyeballs when the end user searches for available names on the likes of Godaddy.

Well MMX the operator of Dot London have pushed a national TV campaign in the UK and on the 2 largest paid for by ads channels here ITV and Channel4. No obscure satellite niche channel, this is mainstream.

The TV Ad campaign started last week.  Dot London has been very stable since its launch in 2014 and continues to have between 60k and 80k registrations. It also has a tie-up with EPIK who is promoting the space and looks to sell premium names. Worth noting MMX has been going through a strategic review, in plain English looking for a buyer over the last 9 months, this may be a push to get the numbers up and do a little window dressing. The BODs at MMX have vented their frustration about the strategic review when reporting interim results last week.

The death of domaining is on the horizon

Posted on 07 February 2018 by NamePros Daily

Today: .tv ccTLD market – Thriving or diving? / .life investment discussion / Domain names are a decentralized technology / And more!

Here are the new domain discussions and domain news.

How to sell a domain asset to a company with the hyphenated version – Have you ever tried this? How did it go? Do you have some tips, tricks, or strategies you can share to help walk newer investors through the steps?

FlowerDeliveryReview.com – Affiliate Possibility or etc – I’m just not feeling how the three words in FlowerDeliveryReview.com play together. Maybe if it was plural it would be better? What kind of value do you think this 3-word singular has?

WatchCoins.Com – Seriously? WatchCoins.com? While I can see that it’s meant to be developed into a site that monitors an assortment of coins in one place for convenience, I’m just not seeing why it would have value with all the crypto/coin markets crashing. What do you think it’s worth?

Domain names are a decentralized technology – Do you agree that domain names are a decentralized technology and on it’s way to being replaced by new technology soon? I’m just not buying it, are you?

.tv ccTLD market – Thriving or diving? – Now this is an interesting discussion/debate about the ccTLD .tv extension. If you are a .tv investor or thinking about investing in .tv domain names, this is the discussion you want to be involved in.

.life investment discussion – Do you own any .life and want to share your investment? Looking to discuss the .life extension in more detail and share stats with other .life investors? If so, then this is the discussion for you.

The death of domaining is on the horizon – There is some crazy talk about domain investing losing momentum and crashing like it was a cryptocurrency or something. I don’t think there is any accuracy to the report. What do you think?

Why “New gTLD Spotting” Is Pointless

Posted on 06 September 2017 by Andrei

Since I’m now working really hard on my YouTube.com/OneMinuteEconomics channel, I tend to pay more attention to the let’s call it business side of YouTube and recently, I’ve noticed that two HUGE YouTubers (Rhett and Link, 12 million subscribers!) are using the domain Mythical.Store to sell merchandise.
