… at least not for the domains you’d be willing to sell at let’s say 3 figs to low 4 figs.
Some end users are genuinely clueless but it’s not unusual to see seemingly ridiculous lowball offers turn into low-ish but still decent sales if the domainer educates the person in question.

As a domainer, I’m sure you understand where I’m coming from. A lot of domainers are actually “right” so to speak, in other words they add domains which genuinely have potential to their portfolio.
Unfortunately, as investors often say, the market can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent, so they have to let go of those domains too soon for liquidity-related reasons and end up selling at break even or even at a loss.

Being memorable is one of the most important characteristics a domain should have and a lot of people assume that all short domains are memorable because… well, they’re short.
That’s not necessarily accurate and a lot of times, a long(er) domain can be far more memorable than a short one.

One of the #1 mistakes traders make is this: they have a plan/method but instead of sticking with it, they let their emotions get the best of them and start making exceptions during a trade.
“This time, I’ll put a higher % of my capital at risk, just this time!”
“Ok, I’ll make this *one* exception.”

… the short answer is that yes, it matters. I see this a lot in other areas as well, for example gold lately. A lot of people constantly advise others to buy because they’re bullish on gold long-term but that’s not an optimal strategy in my opinion.

A lot of people assume that domaining and investing in general is a piece of cake. After all, as far as they see it, you simply click on your mouse a few times and bam, there you have it. It’s a common misconception because the thing is, behind each “click” as they perceive it, lies a great deal of work and research because if you make the wrong decisions, you lose money.

I consider myself a reasonably good investor, among other things because I don’t get emotionally attached to whatever it is I’m investing in. A lot of people think that selling domains at a loss is a huge mistake because the holding cost is only about 8 bucks/year. Those people are right or wrong, depending on how much liquidity the domain owner in question has.
Let me explain.

A while ago, I announced that I’m accepting guest posts on DomainingTips.com. I thought it would be a reasonable deal for both parties and I was right. The author receives exposure for his/her sites or domains and I receive interesting content for my blog.

There’s no way for me to answer this question without asking another one: how important is the domain in question? Or better yet, is that domain important enough for you to be willing to pay “retail” in order to renew it?
If you only own a few domains then sure, it’s a no brainer. But if you own thousands, it adds up and paying retail for your renewals might/will affect your bottom line. Unfortunately, you can’t apply coupons when auto renewing, that’s why I mentioned the fact that you’d be paying retail.

Since I run online businesses, I’m in a good position to leverage my knowledge/experience and buy/sell domains regularly. I don’t buy/sell stocks regularly, I don’t buy/sell commodities regularly and so on. In other words, I’m a domain trader but *not* a stock/commodity/whatever trader, let me explain why.
