New gTLD Case Study, Update #2: Development Experiment

As mentioned on the 18th of May, I’ll be documenting my new gTLD journey as of this point and will let you guys know what I bought as well as what my plans/results are.

Yesterday, I picked up Stocks.XYZ, my first landrush domain (all of the other ones have been bought during the general availability phase). The domain will have a standard renewal fee and I plan on turning it into a megasite with 100+ articles.

New gTLD Case Study

As of today, I’ll be documenting my new gTLD experiment.

I’ll let you guys know which domains I bought, why I bought them, how much I paid and what my end user asking price will be. Every now and then, I’ll post a follow-up with new acquisitions and relevant updates.

I don’t own many (only 13 at the moment of writing) and will probably end up owning 100-ish at the end of 2014. Should be a decent enough number for this experiment and enough to at least draw some preliminary conclusions.

As you know, I’ve done a case study about each newly launched project and MegaSites.com won’t represent an exception. Some of you might remember that for many years, I’ve stated on DomainingTips.com time and time again that building small websites is *not* a viable long-term business model because quite frankly, such websites don’t genuinely provide value to visitors. Through MegaSites.com, I’ve decided to do the exact opposite of what most webmasters choose to do by focusing on large useful websites (preferably 100+ articles).
