A lot of times, being genuinely helpful can be extremely profitable. You might just be making the best investment of your career… without knowing that you’re making an investment. A lot of people adopt an “I can’t be bothered to…” selfish attitude and it’s an understandable human instinct. But don’t make the mistake of underestimating the importance of networking.
Abundance, now that’s a word worth remembering.
Maybe you can introduce Person A to Person B.
Maybe you can help someone with a friendly suggestion.
… the list can go on and on.
Believe it or not, it’s a small world (and this is especially true when it comes to industries like domaining) and you never know when your paths will cross again.
If someone asks you to do something unreasonable then sure, politely decline.
There’s a fine line between being helpful and letting people take advantage of you.
My point is this: a lot of times, even a small gesture counts.
Try to ignore your primal “me me me” instincts and basically treat others the way you want to be treated.
Heh, I tend to be philosophical on Fridays 🙂
