Domainers are doomed

Since NamesCon 2018 the blogs and Namepros have been a washed with negative comments about the state of the industry. China crash, nGTLDs, poor auction results, Crypto coins sucking in dollars. A general malaise of depression.
I am much more optimistic because the underlying values are stronger than ever. Let’s take China

The $201,250 Casino.Online Sale Is Great… but Not for Domainers :)

Posted on 26 March 2017 by Andrei

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I have to ask: how much money did domainers make after the $201,250 Casino.Online sale? The answer is obvious: a big fat $0, because the domain was sold by the registry to an end user, NOT by a domainer.

Dot Net Prices Almost Doubled Since 2012

Posted on 25 January 2017 by Andrei

A few minutes ago, Elliot pointed out that GoDaddy just emailed its customers about a Dot Net price increase that’s scheduled for February 1. You should expect emails from some of the other registrars as well, since Verisign (the entity which is in charge of Dot Com as well as Dot Net) has decided to make wholesale prices go up.

Here’s what happened to Dot Net prices since 2012.

DN.com Not Re-Opening for the Time Being

Posted on 14 March 2016 by Andrei

According to a recent email they’ve sent, DN.com will be closed for a few more days. Their exact wording is “several days more” and “several” is pretty strong wording but since the people behind the escrow service are from China, it might just be a language barrier thing, perhaps they didn’t use “several” to indicate that we’ll be talking about a significant amount of time and simply should have used “a few” or “lighter” expressions.

Will I Be Using Escrow.com’s Concierge Service?

Posted on 23 February 2016 by Andrei

A lot of people have been waiting for this feature and I’m glad Escrow.com will be offering it as of this point.

If you don’t know what the concierge service is all about, here’s a short explanation: up until this point, Escrow.com did not take possession of the domain at all. In other words, the buyer paid Escrow.com and Escrow.com then instructed the seller to transfer the domain directly to the buyer. After the seller did this and the buyer confirmed, Escrow.com paid the buyer.
