According to a NamePros member, Dreamhost (Dreamhost is not exactly a great company btw – ok, I know, I can’t be objective because I own DomainingServers.com which is also a hosting company – but even if you don’t end up choosing me as your hosting provider, do yourself a favor and go with an option that’s at least better than Dreamhost) called all of us squatters through their newsletter.
This is pretty frustrating but hey, maybe they’ll change their mind after they see this post on the first page of G for various Dreamhost-related terms. Here’s the newsletter:
“If you’ve tried to register one lately, you’ve probably come to realize what everyone else has known for the last five years: All the good .coms are taken.
Notice I said “taken” and not “in use”. That’s because domain squatters buy up what can be had for $9.95/year (or less in some cases) and just hang on to them indefinitely, hoping that someone will come along and offer to buy a domain from them later for hundreds or even thousands of dollars.”
If you ever notice a situation like this one (domainers being called squatters by a well-known person/company), shoot me an email at admin (at) domainingtips (dot) com and I’ll call them out through my blog. If we want things to change when it comes to the way our industry is perceived, we need to stop acting like little girls and start taking action IMO.

I am glad you are calling them out on your blog but did you happen to send them an email/snail mail explaining what we do and why? You might want to include their contact information so others would feel compelled to reach out to them. Otherwise, this post is just a rant.

Dreamhost = Ignorant of Domains and Domain Investing, IMO.
I wonder if they could be sued for slander? I don’t appreciate Dreamhost saying this about me.

@Tia: back when Mark Zwilling wrote something I didn’t agree with in a Business Insider article, I shot him an email after making the post because he seemed like a reasonable guy. I was right. He politely responded and changed the article.
I also wrote a post on DomainingTips back when Reputation.com called us squatters but didn’t email anyone at that point because I knew they’d find the post since they’re a reputation management company and it’s kind of what they do.
Basically, I decide whether or not I send an email on a case by case basis. In this case, there’s no article or website section that needs to be changed, they called us squatters through their newsletter and the damage has been done since the emails have already been sent 🙂

I replied to their newsletter. Let’s see what they got to say.

I don’t know about their servers too much but I know about their customer service , and in one word it’s CRAP – this should be enough .

@Ofek: they’re located in Los Angeles and if you need more IPs, all you need to do is submit a ticket and we’ll hook you up with some 🙂

When I originally commented I clicked the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and already each time a comment is added I purchase four emails sticking with the same comment. Could there be in any manner you possibly can eliminate me from that service? Thanks!
