Facebook Deals – Bye Bye Groupon and LivingSocial?

Posted on 26 April 2011 by Andrei

Facebook Deals will go live in 5 US cities (Dallas, Atlanta, San Diego, San Francisco and Austin) soon. I’m sure all of you know that deal sites like Groupon are all the rage these days, do you think that Facebook Deals will do some serious damage? Given the fact that FB has hundreds of millions of users, I think this project will NOT be a flop. Ok, it won’t be a flop but will it put Groupon and LivingSocial out of business?

In my opinion, no.

Is the Groupon team thrilled that Facebook Deals will go live? Nope.

But, fortunately for them, their business model is rock solid. In case you didn’t know, Groupon is what it is thanks to an amazing marketing department thanks to which it has established business relationships with lots of local businesses.

This is not something that can be replicated just like that.

Ok, you hire some programmers and launch a similar site, that’s not complicated at all but I can assure you that unless you have a HUGE budget at your disposal, your project will not exactly be a smashing hit.

Of course, the team behind a platform with an impressive user base such as Facebook is in a great position to launch a project like Groupon but in my opinion, Groupon will continue to be the #1 player for a looooong time for reasons I might refer to in a future post.

My 2 cents:

1) Facebook Deals will be successful

2) Even though it will be successful, Groupon’s position as the #1 player will not be in jeopardy

I did however expertise several technical issues using this website, as I experienced to reload the web site a lot of times previous to I could get it to load correctly. I had been wondering if your web hosting is OK? Not that I am complaining, but slow loading instances times will sometimes affect your placement in google and could damage your high-quality score if ads and marketing with Adwords. Anyway I’m adding this RSS to my e-mail and can look out for a lot more of your respective exciting content. Make sure you update this again soon..

It seems like the internet is where it’s at. I studied Computer Information and Film/Video at school, but I’m not too shabby with a keyboard when it comes to writing interesting stuff. Does anyone know of anyone (aside from Drudge and Arianna Huffington) who has been able to make a few bucks by blogging on a site from home?.
