Should Domainers Care About Politics?

Posted on 01 October 2013 by Andrei

As a general rule, I avoid talking about politics. The more time passes, the more I notice that nothing good can come out of it.

Do politicians have an impact on you as a domainer?

Sure, since the laws they write/pass can affect you directly.

But does this mean you should care about politics?

In my opinion, no, at least not all that much.

No because aside from voting and a few other things, there’s really not that much you can do.

Yes, these things affect you but you don’t have much control over them, so spending lots of time on such matters is pointless.

And even the voting stuff is tricky because for the most part, politicians are all the same. Different branding strategy but very few fundamental differences.

As a domainer/entrepreneur, I’d recommend focusing more on the things you have direct control over.

For example, you can watch lots of political TV shows to “be informed”, get angry and all that.

Or you can just watch the news once a day and spend the remaining time on your portfolio or on your business.

In which scenario do you think you’ll end up making more money?

Maybe my initial “no” to the “Should domainers care about politics?” question was too harsh.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t be informed.

I’m not saying you should be ignorant.

What I’m saying is that for the most part, when it comes to politics, we’re talking about things you have minimal direct control over.

Therefore, I’d recommend spending less time caring about politics (TV shows, forum discussions and what not) and more time doing domaining-related stuff or working on your business.

Realistically speaking, the day only has 24 hours and our time on this planet is limited.

If you’re really passionate about politics then why not, maybe you can become a politician. But if you’re not a politician and if you don’t want to become a politician, then I guarantee it’s a good idea to spend less time/energy on politics and more on your career, whatever it may be (doctor, domainer, engineer, entrepreneur, you name it).

Logic 101 yet many people disregard such advice, become talk show junkies and waste hours upon hours of their limited time worrying about things they have no direct control over.
