The Importance of the RESELLER Market

Posted on 09 January 2011 by Andrei

Now all of us obviously prefer selling to well funded end users but what if you all of a sudden need to liquidate 500 domains? Emailing end users can work but scaling can be a royal pain in the you know what, so let’s face it: our industry NEEDS an active reseller market because without it, I’m not really sure we could call ourselves an industry and here’s why:

Liquidity, Liquidity, Liquidity

If you own physical gold, liquidating will not be complicated at all.

If you own land, a house or an apartment and want to sell it, it’s easy to figure out how much you’d be able to obtain.

The list could go on and on but what about domains? I know some people never sell on the domainer to domainer market but the average domain investor can’t afford to play the buy and hold game. The average domainer might all of a sudden need lots of capital and without a liquid reseller market, things can end up being quite tricky.

What do you guys think about the importance of the domainer to domainer market and its future?

The reseller market right now has one big problem, there aren’t enough resellers to create liquidity and that brings prices down.

When I started I tried to sell names on namepros then I went too far and tried to only sell to end users but recently I have done a few more domianer sales and they help out. There is a balance between end user and domainer sales that works for everyone depending on the person.

Sales and buy and hold should both be based on your own general lowest offer accepted attitude. Know what you want and what you need, most domainers can replace a name when sold.

Only when people stop demanding silly high asking prices will a reseller market blossom

Most domainers want to make a killing on every domain. I try to price my domains to the end user that is going to use it.

A small business cannot afford to pay you $XX,XXX for a domain.
While a Fortune 500 campany can and will if they want the domain.

While I will buy domains from other domainers I have no interest in selling in that market.
