On Monday, I blogged about the most recent $1.18 GoDaddy coupon and explained that nowadays, anyone can launch a website with pocket change thanks to those coupons and thanks to hosting deals such as the $0.98/month one we have over at DomainingServers.com. Guess what? Someone posted a comment and basically said something along the lines of “who needs hosting when we have dot tel?”.
The poor guy was being serious (I have nothing against him, we were all beginners at a certain point but the comment is just too funny, so I had to write this post… sorry John) and I’ll let the comment speak for itself:
“$0.98 a month for hosting plus $1.18 for a domain makes $12.94 for one year.
Still this is more expensive than .tel and on top of this I need to hire a web developer to build my website. No thanks
I made myself this website without any knowledge of web developing.
It has all information about the subject, it’s cheep and so easy to build that any idiot can do it http://www.granvillestreet.tel”

As someone who has dipped his finger in dottel, I can tell you that this person has very little idea how daunting it can be to make any money. It requires big advertising just to raise the visibility of the TLD in your target community, to say nothing of the shoe leather required to sign up businesses. Good luck to him!
