Do You *Have* To Understand What You’re Investing In?

Posted on 11 November 2015 by Andrei

A lot of times, when talking to domainers from Western countries, they tell me how they don’t understand the short domain phenomenon.

Domaining is changing, this much is certain.

The direction in which the industry is heading is dictated by where the money is coming from and at this point and beyond, Asia is in the spotlight.

That’s where the money is, that’s where domainers need to be in my opinion.

If you live in a Western country, the culture differences can seem intimidating and a lot of times, you won’t understand what makes Asian investors tick. In my opinion, you don’t have to, at least not right away. As time passes and you receive more exposure to Asia, I’m sure that will change but for the time being, it’s not imperative to 100% understand what you’re doing.

Just follow the money.

If the money is flowing towards short domains, that’s where you need to be. One of the hardest lessons you need to learn as an investor is that the market is always right. The market doesn’t have to bow to your perspective, it’s the other way around.

The sooner you realize this, the better.

so on 309.com do they sell a lot of 309’s? What happens when demand for 309’s dries up?

there are only so many numbers and cheap extensions. I think 4 and under numbers in .net .biz .co .link and .club could be good. I like .xyz but the renewal at netsol is over $50 i think. That’s too much.
