If you ever want an example of how the news dictates our thinking, Hurricane Irma and Harvey are your touch stones.
Think of the biggest weather disaster in the last 14 days and most would think of the two hurricanes hitting the US but both pale into insignificance to the recent Moonson floods in South Asia, death toll now over 1,200, 1.5 million buildings destroyed, 10s thousands of schools and hospitals have gone and 40 million people affected. It hardly gets a mention on the mainstream news in Europe or US.

GoDaddy No Longer Offering Free Privacy

Most of you know that GoDaddy’s “free privacy if you register 5+ domains” offer has been around for a long time but it seems that as of this month, the offer is gone. Now as a domainer, using whois privacy doesn’t make all that much sense in most cases but webmasters won’t like this change.

Firefox 7 – Good News for Domains

I upgraded to Firefox 7 earlier today and at this point, there are two features which make domains stand out: first of all, the http:// part has been removed and this makes it possible for the domain to receive more “attention” (as you can see if you take a look at the screenshot) and secondly, the actual domain (so, for example) is displayed using a different and more visible color.

SIGNIFICANT Gold/Silver Price Dips

Silver fell 25% over the past two days and gold is down 15% compared to its record-breaking $1,923.7/ounce September 6 value. Now I know this post isn’t about domain auctions, ICANN policies and so on but in my opinion, it’s good to at least acknowledge a few “outside world” things every now and then as a domain investor 🙂

What will the subscribe button do? Basically, you’ll add a subscribe button to your profile and that button will make it possible for people you didn’t befriend to see your public updates. A VERY interesting feature for bloggers, celebrities and so on.
