At a certain point for example, the term “exact match” was all the rage and the exact match search volume of the term was used extremely frequently as the domain’s #1 selling point in a lot of cases. The only problem was this: all it takes is one policy change and bam, everything disappears.
That’s why today, I’d like to make an important distinction and refer to temporary as well as permanent domain selling points.

I’m confident all of my readers have an edge that can help them as domainers or investors in general, even if many of them don’t realize it yet. Your edge doesn’t necessarily have to be something like a technical background that enables you to be good at picking domains related to your niche.
In my case for example, the #1 edge I have as an investor is the fact that I’m a cheap bastard. I absolutely love saving money and hate spending just for the sake of it. I said this on DomainingTips on more than one occasion and I’m proud of it. In other words, I’m not a “consumer” who likes to constantly spend money on (sometimes useless) stuff.

As domainers and/or entrepreneurs, we’re often under a lot of pressure. Not necessarily due to the actual work we do but rather due to the responsibility that lies on our shoulders.
Should I accept that offer?
What should my next move be?
Did I make the right decision yesterday?

The book won’t be about domaining or making money online although there will be a chapter or two about online assets, it will be about how to manage your wealth in a complex economic environment such as this one.
I think domainers will find it useful because after making money online either via domaining or through other methods, a lot of people are having a hard time figuring out how to diversify and invest in offline assets as well.

… but in the real world, things are unfortunately a bit more complicated.
I remember my first business idea like it was yesterday. I distinctly remember my first strategy as a domainer as well. I had it all figured out… or so it seemed 🙂

… or bond investors? Real estate investors perhaps? On the one hand, it’s easy to understand why some people think that just because they’re good at investing in certain assets (domains, in our case), it automatically means they’ll do well in the stock market as well, for example.
Unfortunately, things are a bit more complicated than that.

As time passes and people start becoming better at the thing(s) they do for a living (domaining, running businesses or anything else), I’ve noticed that they go through one of the following types of changes: some become arrogant and start developing some kind of a sense of superiority, while some become more and more humble because they’re grateful for what they have and understand just how fortunate they are to be alive in 2013.

One of the biggest mistakes domainers make is thinking that there’s a “one size fits all” solution just waiting for them.
What they should be doing is asking themselves what the best strategy for their specific situation is. An approach that’s great for a beginner who wants to learn the ropes and doesn’t mind investing time as well might not be the best choice for let’s say an offline business owner who wants to add some diversity to his portfolio by investing in domains as well.

As of this point, I’ll be publishing a post like this once a year because unfortunately, most people still don’t understand just how important backups are.
Most domainers probably have at least a website or two and the bottom line is this: it doesn’t matter which hosting company you’re using, you should still have your own backups because one extra measure of precaution can’t hurt.

About an hour ago, the Federal Reserved tapered (it reduced its purchases from $85 billion per month to $75). Most economists predicted that there would be no taper.
Last month, the ECB lowered the interest rate. Most economists predicted that it would remain intact.
