In my opinion, it doesn’t matter.
Some people call themselves investors because it has a more positive connotation than the term “speculator” but the truth is, everyone (domainers, entrepreneurs, employees, you name it) is speculating in one way or another, with our without knowing/acknowledging it.
Think about it.
A lot of people say they’re not good at speculation, so they just keep money in the bank.
Ironically, those people are speculating as well.
They’re basically “investing” in whatever currency they’re keeping their money in. So for example, someone from the US who keeps his wealth in the bank through deposits is investing in the dollar.
In other words, he or she is bullish on the dollar or in other words, speculating that the interest paid by the bank will be enough to preserve his or her purchasing power.
Someone who invests in index funds is speculating as well, thinking that the market will do well. Someone who invests in specific stocks is speculating as well, thinking that those companies will do well and so on.
An entrepreneur who (re)invests in his own business is also speculating, since he or she is counting on the fact that the investment in question will pay off.
Everyone is a speculator in one way or another.
We live in a world of uncertainty, so it’s inevitable.
Why some people don’t acknowledge this is beyond me.
Oh well š

Very good question.. i think i am more of a speculator when it comes to domains.
very low investments for potential high returns.. there is no business like it š
