Am I the Only One Who Finds Most Domain Deals with People/Companies from Germany Frustrating?

Posted on 03 November 2015 by Andrei

… do keep in mind that I said most, not all.

While there are indeed exceptions and I for one know at least a couple of genuinely awesome German domainers, most of my domain deals with people/companies from Germany have been frustrating to say the least.

The main reason is represented by the utter lack of flexibility I’ve noticed.

I’ve done business with people from all continents and from lots of countries but I have to say, most of the individuals from Germany I’ve worked with are anything but flexible. Try to do something at least a little bit not in line with the status who and you’re met with a wall of resistance.

Secondly, I’ve noticed most Germans like to complicate things unnecessarily. Just look at some of the registrars that are based in Germany and you’ll notice that a lot of times, the interface is just not intuitive and user-friendly..

Gripe #3 would be represented by the fact that German domain companies don’t keep up with technology, which is weird to say the least. Believe it or not, some German registrars still require people to fax over details to them. Fax. Yes. Faxing information in 2015… a request made by a tech company (registrar). Wtf? Or you might remember that a few years ago, the German registry released one and two character domains. How did people have to apply? Yep, fax 🙂

I could go on and on but there’d be little point in doing that.

Now don’t get me wrong, I love Germany.

My German is almost as good as my English.

A lot of people I care about are from or in Germany, including relatives.

But this doesn’t mean one cannot criticize when criticism is due. Maybe your experience differs but most of my dealings with German domainers/companies haven’t been easy on the little sanity I have left to put it mildly.

Luckily it’s been a positive experience for me in dealing with buyers from Germany.

Europeans are just what they are… it’s just same thing with folks from the UK as well. Too difficult to deal with.

You’ll be able to register .DE names with Uniregistry very very shortly. The German namespace will get a fresh breath of air ; ) In January once the Uniregistry market is in, selling a domain name to a German will become *much* easier

I’ve had 4 deals fall through after agreement in the last couple of months with Russian buyers. They keep flaking. 3 on the same name.
