Tomorrow might not be an extremely busy day in terms of new gTLD launches (only two General Availability phases: Dot London and Dot Global) but as a reader mentioned yesterday, a lot of conclusions will most likely be drawn.
Why?
Because each of the two launches is special in its own way.
On the one hand, Dot London is without a doubt one of the most talked about geo new gTLDs, perhaps even *the* most covered one. People are expecting a solid performance and anything less would be a huge disappointment.
As far as Dot Global is concerned, I wouldn’t call it one of the most talked about new gTLDs but the expectations are high in its case as well given the fact that we’re dealing with a general/everything goes gTLD such as Dot XYZ and Dot Link.
When it comes to niche extensions, the “hey, low 4 figs isn’t that bad for a niche gTLD” argument makes sense but for an extensions such as Dot Global (with a lot of term + extension combinations that make sense), low 4 figs after the first day of GA would be a disaster.
Maybe you’ll be going after some of the domains, maybe not.
Either way, I think keeping track of the performance of tomorrow’s new gTLDs would be a good idea.
Given the fact that the initial euphoric stage is over when it comes to new gTLDs, a solid performance would be like a breath of fresh air and the same way, a disappointing one may very well end up affecting future launches in ways one would have never expected.
