Sedo GreatDomains March Ending Tomorrow

Posted on 22 March 2017 by Andrei

This month’s Sedo GreatDomains auctions are in my opinion better than last month’s but still, not exactly inventory I’d call spectacular. However, some of you might find something of interest, especially if you’re into short domains. I’d say the short domain category is well-represented this month, whereas other domain categories… not so much.

Investing in Brandables Isn’t For Everyone

Posted on 21 March 2017 by Andrei

I have to admit, I’m not a huge fan of investing in brandables.

Investing in generics? Sure. Investing in short domains? Yep. But brandables? Totally different ballgame as far as I’m concerned.

Can’t Believe I’ve Never Been to a Domaining Conference

Posted on 20 March 2017 by Andrei

I’ve been in the industry for a loooong time but strangely enough, I’ve never been to a conference.

I read about the good time people are having, friends tell me it’s about time I started attending these events on Skype and so on, yet I still don’t go.

WHY Do Most Chinese Investors “Pump and Dump” When Investing?

Posted on 19 March 2017 by Andrei

The conclusion of yesterday’s post has been that yes, most Chinese domainers invest in a “pump and dump” manner.

Today, let’s talk about *why* that happens.

Do Most Chinese Domainers Invest in a “Pump and Dump” Manner?

Posted on 18 March 2017 by Andrei

A short while ago, I’ve published a video about pump and dump schemes on my One Minute Economics YouTube channel and made it clear that despite people mostly using the term when talking about penny stocks (the penny stock video was published first, then the one about pump and dump schemes in general), other assets can be pumped and dumped as well.

Sedo GreatDomains March Started Yesterday

Posted on 17 March 2017 by Andrei

This month’s GreatDomains auctions are nothing special but still, not awful. They really need better diversified inventory IMO. Their short domain selection is decent (the reserves, not always) but they need solid inventory outside the realm of short domains as well. Still, even if the inventory isn’t spectacular, I’m writing this post because a few of you might find something of interest. The auctions started yesterday and will end on the 23rd.

I’m not sure why I keep blogging about Sedo GreatDomains, as I’m practically giving them free exposure at this point despite their inventory not being stellar. Perhaps it’s because I remember the “good ol’ days” when the inventory used to be better. Old habits die hard I guess. I really wish they’d do a better job but at the end of the day, I’m not responsible for how others run their business.

Why Can’t Brokers Simply Aim Higher?

Posted on 16 March 2017 by Andrei

As a broker, I’ve noticed that those who submit domains along with prices for consideration frequently say something along the lines of “let’s just start by aiming higher and then we’ll see” and from their perspective, it seems logical. After all, sellers want to extract as much money as possible but there are two more parties involved: the broker and the buyer.

Correction: The Maximum .Club Yearly Renewal Price Increase Is 3%, Not 15%

Posted on 15 March 2017 by Andrei

Colin Campbell from Dot Club commented on the post I’ve published 4 days ago and made a clarification that we’re talking about the rate of inflation or 15% over *five years*, not per year, so a maximum of 3% yearly if the rate of inflation doesn’t exceed 3%.

You Make the Bed You Lie In

Posted on 14 March 2017 by Andrei

As someone who has been warning domainers against investing in new gTLDs since before bashing new g’s was “cool” (2015, to be precise), I have to say I feel sorry about the drama Frank and Uniregistry are going through right now. It’s literally a feeding frenzy of hate out there and here on DomainingTips, I don’t believe in jumping on bandwagons and beating dead horses just so I can score some popularity points. Which is why I’d make a poor politician, I guess.

A lot of dramatic things have happened over the past couple of days, culminating with GoDaddy’s decision of dropping Uniregisty strings altogether (all of them, not just the ones affected by the price increase) and I believe it’s time to draw some conclusions with a clear head. Which is what I’ll be trying to do now.

Let’s Talk About Worst Case New gTLD Scenarios

Posted on 13 March 2017 by Andrei

If let’s say two years ago, someone would have said new gTLD renewal prices would go up 30 times in some cases, he would have been called a conspiracy nut. Yet it happened. As those who invested in Dot Hosting and Dot Juegos domains found out, renewal fees did in fact go up from $10-$20 all the way to $300 per year. Worst case scenarios aren’t just horror stories, they can and sometimes do materialize.
