For How Many Years Are You Willing to Renew Your New gTLD Domains?

Posted on 21 May 2014 by Andrei

In my opinion, it might take years until we finally have an answer to the “Is investing in new gTLDs worth it?” question. In other words, we’re talking about a marathon rather than a sprint and your business model should be adjusted accordingly.

What does this mean?

The Paradox of Thrift – Reseller Market Version

Posted on 19 May 2014 by Andrei

Since I’m also an economist, I try to occasionally analyze certain terms/theories/principles from a domaining perspective. The paradox of thrift is easy to understand. Let’s assume that all of us decide to start saving money. Now for the average person, saving money would be a good thing but if *everyone* were to do it, the economy would grind to a halt and we’d all be ultimately be worse off.

New gTLD Case Study

Posted on 18 May 2014 by Andrei

As of today, I’ll be documenting my new gTLD experiment.

I’ll let you guys know which domains I bought, why I bought them, how much I paid and what my end user asking price will be. Every now and then, I’ll post a follow-up with new acquisitions and relevant updates.

I don’t own many (only 13 at the moment of writing) and will probably end up owning 100-ish at the end of 2014. Should be a decent enough number for this experiment and enough to at least draw some preliminary conclusions.

14 GoDaddy Discount Codes

Posted on 17 May 2014 by Andrei

Earlier this year, a lot of people were worried because GoDaddy coupons became harder and harder to find. Fortunately, things are back on track and the past couple of weeks have been very good for bargain hunters. I’ll be sharing 14 GoDaddy coupons with you guys today: two which should bring the price down to $0.99, nine which should bring the price down to $1.99 and three which should bring the price down to $2.95.

You Can’t Claim to Be Successful Without CONSISTENCY

Posted on 16 May 2014 by Andrei

This happens in pretty much all industries and ours is no exception. A guy invests in a certain stock or in a few stocks, the results are good and he now claims to be a stock market expert. A person flips a home while the bull market is in full gear and now claims to be a real estate mogul. A person has a few good sales as a domainer and claims to be a domaining pro.

Unfortunately, that’s not the case.

Are We in a Numeric Domain Bubble? – Part Two

Posted on 15 May 2014 by Andrei

I wrote about this topic earlier this month and was glad to find out that The Sherpas covered it as well today. It’s an interesting discussion and I encourage you to read my post as well as watch the video.

Today, I’d like to make two clarifications.

Do You Like the New NamePros and DNForum?

Posted on 14 May 2014 by Andrei

Just noticed that the new NamePros design went live and as far as DNForum is concerned, theirs was implemented a while ago. It’s important to note however that we’re not just talking about a new design but rather about something very significant: a platform change.

Are We in for a Significant Industry-Wide Profit Margin Adjustment?

Posted on 13 May 2014 by Andrei

Will this happen for the very best dot coms? I don’t think so but everything else may very well be fair game. Whether we’re talking about lower quality dot coms, existing TLDs or new TLDS, this much is certain: there will be more and more competition when it comes to “next best thing” domains.

Pen + Paper?

Posted on 12 May 2014 by Andrei

As an entrepreneur and/or domainer, you frequently have to make “big picture”-ish decisions. In other words, you occasionally have to take a step back and try to see things in perspective. I don’t know about you guys but in my case, the “old school” approach works great for such decisions: a pen and a blank piece of paper.
