The Differences Between Gold and Domains

Posted on 17 April 2013 by Andrei

Domains are an investment, gold is not.

Ok, then what is gold? Some people say gold is money, I disagree. Gold *was* money, now it’s I’d say a store of value end there’s nothing wrong with that.

Keeping Up With the Joneses

Posted on 16 April 2013 by Andrei

Since you’re reading this post, I’ll assume you’re not a gazillionaire… at least not yet 🙂

Gazillionaires can afford to splurge on lots of fancy cars or pretty much any depreciating assets since to them, that expense as a percentage of their net worth is negligible.

Is Accepting Bitcoins Worth It?

Posted on 14 April 2013 by Andrei

I recently thought about whether or not DomainingServers.com should accept Bitcoins and ultimately decided against it. For now, it’s just not worth it and here’s why:

You Can’t Take Advantage of *All* Opportunities

Posted on 13 April 2013 by Andrei

Sometimes, one of the domains you should have bought but didn’t ends up selling for a pretty penny and you regret not buying it.

Sometimes, you miss opportunities to multiply your money by a factor of 500 (for example, by buying Bitcoins at $0.05 and selling at $250) or 50 (for example, by buying AAPL at $10 and selling at $500).

… and so on.

It happens.

No Soup for You!

Posted on 11 April 2013 by Andrei

Some people think that during a domain negotiation, you have to be “tough” in a “no soup for you!” manner for lack of a better word. I disagree.

I’m not saying it can’t work, I’m just saying it isn’t the optimal approach for several reasons. Most of them are obvious, so let me just say this: during a negotiation, I treat the other party the same way I’d like to be treated if I were in the same position.

-50% in One Day

Posted on 10 April 2013 by Andrei

As I mentioned yesterday when explaining that Bitcoins went from $0.08 to $200+ since 2010, no price evolution would surprise me. Wouldn’t surprise me to see them at $2,000, wouldn’t surprise me to see them at $20.

From $0.08/Bitcoin to $200+/Bitcoin

Posted on 09 April 2013 by Andrei

… for those of you who thought domains generate the highest returns 🙂

I admit, I don’t own any Bitcoins and my knowledge as to how this stuff works is marginal but those who do obviously generated some great returns. If my research is accurate, the price was $0.08/Bitcoin back in July 2010 and at the moment of writing, we’re at $200+. In other words, a 2500x+ price increase in less than 3 years.

Are You a Contrarian Domainer?

Posted on 08 April 2013 by Andrei

What do contrarians do? They’re willing to buy when everyone’s selling and sell when everyone’s buying. In other words, they don’t blindly follow the herd. The most profitable investments are always those made when everyone questions your judgement.

They’re also the riskiest. Go figure 🙂

Don’t Take Existing Customers for Granted

Posted on 07 April 2013 by Andrei

As a domainer and/or entrepreneur, I’m sure you’ve noticed this a lot: most companies do everything they can to attract new customers but often end up taking existing ones for granted. Something along the lines of “you’re already with us, so why bother giving you a good deal?”.
