After many years of “meh… what we have is good enough”, I’m glad that people are starting to finally innovate again. New solutions such as Frank’s DomainNameSales.com impressed everyone, existing companies such as Sedo/Afternic upped their game through the MLS introduction, GoDaddy finally paid attention to what domainers wanted and the list can go on and on.

In the past, premium listings pretty much worked like this: if a domain was sold, they’d send you a check… eventually. It took ages until the seller got paid and the entire arrangement showed a clear lack of respect towards domainers in my opinion. All of this changed and as some of you already found out, GoDaddy introduced new payment options as well as (considerably) faster payment timeframes.

The SnapNames Premium Year-End Auction ended a few moments ago and after a confrontation between two bidders, the domain Cotton.com ended up being sold at $205,890.

Whenever we’re dealing with something like the escrow industry, embracing new services is hard. You used Escrow.com, you used Sedo (both of them are great escrow services, I used them personally and my experience was great) and the first reaction whenever you see a new service is probably “meh… Escrow.com and Sedo are good enough” but that’s a mistake in my opinion.
