Reseller Pricing vs. End User Pricing

Posted on 28 August 2012 by Andrei

Last week, I offered to broker domains at a 3% commission but explained that the domain(s) should have a reseller market value of at least 25k. Unfortunately, it seems most domainers don’t understand the difference between reseller pricing and end user pricing.

About.com Sells @ $300 Million

Posted on 27 August 2012 by Andrei

Whenever a website that has a great domain sells, I think it’s good news for our industry and $300 million is a pretty good deal for the buyer in my opinion. IAC paid the New York Times $300 million for About.com, $110 million less than what the New York Times paid for it back in 2005.

Posted on 23 August 2012 by Andrei

If there’s one thing I’m certain of, it’s this: for most gTLDs (the overwhelming majority), there won’t be a reseller market. Period. I made money with dot net domains, I made money with dot tv domains (ok, dot tv is a ccTLD but pretty much everyone uses it as a gTLD) and so on but all of these investments had one thing in common: selling domains to resellers was a LOT harder than selling dot coms.

GoDaddy No Longer Offering Free Privacy

Posted on 22 August 2012 by Andrei

Most of you know that GoDaddy’s “free privacy if you register 5+ domains” offer has been around for a long time but it seems that as of this month, the offer is gone. Now as a domainer, using whois privacy doesn’t make all that much sense in most cases but webmasters won’t like this change.
