As most of you know, I have a decent email list (1,800+ subscribers) that I’ve been pretty much ignoring thus far. About a week or so ago, I decided to do something about it and selling domains would be the most obvious approach. There are indeed a lot of domain sales newsletters out there but the commissions are on the high side, with 15% being the industry standard. I thought to myself: what if I only charge 5%, so three times less than the industry standard?
That way, everyone wins:
1) I win because a commission of only 5% enables me to attract sellers
2) Sellers win because a commission of only 5% makes it possible for them to lower their prices and increase the likelihood of selling their domain(s)
3) Buyers win because since sellers can lower their asking prices, they receive better deals
I will be publishing the first newsletter as an experiment on Monday.
I already have some really good inventory lined up and if you want to, feel free to submit some of your domains for consideration by sending an email to admin@domainingtips.com.
A few submission guidelines:
1) Don’t forget that you’re selling to other investors, price your inventory aggressively, especially since the commission will only be 5%. The newsletter can be a great way to generate quick liquidity but only if the pricing is reasonable
2) Dot com domains preferred but other extensions are also ok if the domain is genuinely worthwhile. For example, a one word product name dot net domain. Or hey, even new gTLDs can be listed but only if we’re talking about “the best of the best” domains such as Real.Estate, Mortgage.Loans and so on
3) No exclusivity required
That’s pretty much it.
If you want to try selling through my newsletter, please only send investment grade domains for consideration to admin@domainingtips.com.
Up until this point, I’ve brokered short domains on and off for 3% but I simply contacted a handful of buyers whenever I received a submission I thought they’d like, I’ve never taken things to the next level by using my newsletter to broker domains up until this point. It means a lot to me and I don’t want to alienate subscribers, so I’ll be very picky. Also, I’ll probably limit myself to sending one email per month, so I want to keep things “quality over quantity” for obvious reasons.
Will be an interesting experiment for sure. If you want to submit domains, I’d recommend doing it as soon as possible (today or tomorrow but preferably today) because again, the test newsletter will go out on Monday. That’s pretty much it. I have no idea whether or not the 5% newsletter brokerage concept will work but hey, I’m willing to give it a shot and will let you guys know how it goes.
