Special Auctionpus.com Promotion – 0% Sales Commission

Posted on 14 September 2010 by Andrei

No, it’s definitely not a typo and no, I’m not insane (at least I hope I’m not). We’ve decided to approach the market with a special fall promotion: our 8% commission is officially gone and as of this point, you won’t have to pay us anything extra if the domain ends up being sold at Auctionpus.com.

The promotion will last until the end of November and based on the feedback we’ll receive, we will decide it we will keep it as of December or if we will switch back to our previous pricing model.

We’re practically doing it for free but in order to make sure that everyone gets a chance to try our platform on for size, we’re implementing a listing fee of:

  • $4.75 for one domain
  • $3.75 per domain if you want to auction 2 to 10 domains
  • $2.75 per domain if you want to auction 11 domains or more

We’re doing this because, otherwise (without the listing fee), a handful of people would probably book all of the positions within 24 hours 🙂

The facts speak for themselves, fee free to compare our old pricing model to our new one and we’re convinced that you will be impressed.

Old Pricing Model

Up until this point, our commission used to be 8% with a minimum fee which needed to be paid upfront. Even if the domain name didn’t sell, the fee needed to be paid, it was basically a listing fee like the one we have now but much higher 🙂

The minimum fees were:

  • $10 for domains listed at no reserve
  • $25 per domain for domains listed with a reserve of $1 – $100
  • $50 per domain for domains listed with a $101+ reserve

New Pricing Model

As mentioned previously, we have dropped the 8% commission and as far as the listing fees are concerned, we have replaced our old listing fees which ranged from $10 to $50 with new ones which range from $2.75 to $4.75.

Not too shabby, don’t you agree?

nice so we just email the domains and you choose?

  2. Andrei Says:

Yep, send the list to domains@auctionpus.com and please don’t forget to include the auction date you’d prefer for each domain.

    Something along the lines of:

    domain1.com – October 19 2010
    domain2.com – November 4 2010

    … and so on.

  3. Xdreamer Says:

I hope you maintain it even after this season. This would be the most affordable auction program, I will be watching close.

  4. e-mail lookup Says:

So you decided to cut the commission but still keep the listing fees? Nice strategy. Worth a try anyway…

  5. Andrei Says:

@Xdreamer: if the arrangement will make sense for all parties involved then sure, we’ll keep this pricing model.

@e-mail lookup: yes, we’ve eliminated the commission altogether and as far as the listing fees are concerned, we’ve reduced them from a minimum of $10 and a maximum of $50 to a minimum of $2.75 and a maximum of $4.75.

What kind of volume (in terms of potential buyers) do your auctions usually get?

  7. Andrei Says:

@selfpublishthis: since Auctionpus.com is only a few months old, we don’t yet have enough data to provide a clear answer to your question.

On the one hand, it takes quite a bit of time until an auction service can consider itself established but on the other hand, we’re doing a lot promotion-wise in order to compensate and provide as much value as possible to all parties involved (paid sticky threads on NamePros and DnForum, advertising on DomainingTips as well as on our webmaster blog which has been live since 2006 and last but not least, a lot of exposure on the Web’s most influential webmaster forum).
