Happy 4th of July to all of my US readers!

I have to admit, I’ve never been into patriotic stuff all that much (mostly because I don’t understand expressions such as “I’m proud to be a citizen of /Insert Country Name/”… most people have simply been born in the country they currently live in, it’s not like they had any merit in the fact that they happened to be born there, I for one prefer to take pride in my own accomplishments) but have always respected the views of those who are.

At the end of the day, patriotism can be quite useful to society in the right dose, especially rational patriotism which doesn’t degenerate into hatred, racism and all that.

We’re living in interesting yet challenging times, so I’m all for any form of social behavior which brings people together WITHOUT doing it in an “us vs. them” manner.
