Yep, time for another $1/domain GoDaddy coupon (it can be used for dot coms as well as for other TLDs, simply log into your account and test it when you get a chance to). You’ll end up paying $1.18 for a domain after the $0.18 ICANN fee is added to the mix and as usual, PayPal cannot be used as a payment method for this offer. Alright then, there’s no need to turn this post into a novel, the GoDaddy coupon code is “patriot1”!
I think it’s great that the barrier of entry is so low in 2011. These days, pretty much anyone with Internet access can afford to set up a website. Think about it: buy a domain for $1.18 using this coupon code, then buy $0.98/month hosting from DomainingServers.com (I decided to extend the promotion, click HERE if you’re interested in hosting at $0.98/month – unlimited domains and free cPanel) and bam, you’re good to go. Pretty impressive IMO.

Is it true that godaddy got sold for a couple of billions?
July 3rd, 2011 at 4:47 pm
@aeroporika eisitiria: GoDaddy has been sold to three private equity firms (Silver Lake, KKR, and TCV) for ~$2.25 billion.

Go daddy didn’t get sold, it took on partners. Their owner is still the owner

$0.98 a month for hosting plus $1.18 for a domain makes $12.94 for one year.
Still this is more expensive than .tel and on top of this I need to hire a web developer to build my website. No thanks
I made myself this website without any knowledge of web developing.
It has all information about the subject, it’s cheep and so easy to build that any idiot can do it http://www.granvillestreet.tel

@John: I don’t think you understood what I said in this post.
If you buy hosting at $0.98/year from my company (DomainingServers.com), you can host unlimited domains, not just one and you can do whatever you want with them.
Dot tel development is a bad joke. If you want low quality development, there are lots of alternatives like Why Park which can be used for any TLD and not just dot tel. But again, that’s low quality development and I can pretty much guarantee that a website like granvillestreet.tel will never make any worthwhile money.
Btw, here’s the full $0.98/month promo link:

@Techmaker and Keith: sorry guys, there are no other $1.18 GoDaddy coupons at the moment of writing. If a new one appears, I’ll mention it on DomainingTips.

@Andrei
I just missed this offer because of my bank customer care service. Since yesterday is sunday, all the customer care officers are not available. So I tried to pay several times for the domain at Godaddy but I got some error message. I fixed it today and try it out. Then I felt that I was too late. So I missed the chance.
Can somebody predict the date of the next promo to come??? On top of that the Godaddy made a partnership with 3 firms. So will this promo continue further??? Any idea???
July 4th, 2011 at 12:10 pm
@Techmaker: I’m not 100% sure at this point. What I do know is that they have been offering coupons such as this one for quite a while, so that brings me to the conclusion that they consider it an effective customer acquisition strategy. That being stated, I think there will be other similar coupons in the future and as soon as I find out about one, I’ll share it with you guys though my blog 🙂

Owh my god I miss it 🙁
its was so fast until the coupon ends.
How can I get notification for the $1 godaddy coupons??

If you think .tel is a low key development look for example at this
http://www.lottonumbers.tel as well as the one I quoted before.
What is wrong with these 2 sites.
On the first you have all information about Granville Street in Vancouver and on the second site you have all information about lotteries around the world.
I know a lot of people like you don’t like .tel because is so easy, fast and inexpensive to develop and it does not require hosting so people like you stand to loose a bundle by sticking to your coms, nets and others
Last compare http://www.granvillestreet.com with http://www.granvillestreet.tel
I’ll take dot tel version anytime and dot com version does not even come close

@John: why should I compare http://www.granvillestreet.com with http://www.granvillestreet.tel? What’s the point of comparing one low quality website with another low quality website?
There are millions upon millions of webmasters on the Internet, show me 10 who are generating decent profits by “developing” dot tel domains.
I know you’re a beginner, so please take my comments as constructive criticism because I honestly have nothing against you.
Ask yourself one question today: am I making worthwhile money by developing dot tel domains right now?
If you want to continue developing dot tels, ask yourself that question once every 3 months or so. If the answer is constantly no, then the conclusions will be obvious 🙂
July 7th, 2011 at 2:45 pm
Andrei, I know you and other web developers have too much at stake
with your coms, nets ….. but dont’t forget everything is replaced sooner or later by something better, simpler and cheeper.
Take another look http://www.lottonumbers.com was already replaced with
http://www.lottonumbers.com and the same will happene with many others,
not all of them of course because .tel has it’s limits but for building quickly a simple and very inexpensive website there is no other alternative.
People will wake up to this fact sooner or later, you will see

@Karimunjawa
If you want to get Godaddy notifications be a affiliate or subscribe to their news letters. Hope this will help.
July 9th, 2011 at 4:57 pm
@John: yeah, developers suck. YouTube, Facebook, Google, Twitter? Amateurs! Why innovate when you can just scrape some content and bam, you’re the best thing since sliced bread? /sarcasm 🙂
On a slightly more serious note, I like your enthusiasm and I’m sure that you’d be able to earn a living online by putting it to good use. Please re-read my previous suggestion:
“Ask yourself one question today: am I making worthwhile money by developing dot tel domains right now?
If you want to continue developing dot tels, ask yourself that question once every 3 months or so. If the answer is constantly no, then the conclusions will be obvious “

I don’t make any money with my .tel sites but I also have a few
.com site where I had to spend a bundle to develop it and I don’t
get very many visitors. My website builder tried to convince me that I should spend another bundle for positioning but I told him politely where he can go. Also to make any changes and additions I have to hire him again and again so thank you, no more again.
On the other hand my http://www.granvillestreet.tel gets a few thousands
visitors a month without any advertising and positioning.
This number will grow in the future because it is a new website and has all the information about the subject anybody needs namely
Granville Street in Vancouver and I spent on it a huge amount of money $9.99 in total
I know I’ll never get my money back from my .com sites
