Facebook Comments on External Sites?

Posted on 02 March 2011 by Andrei

Yep, it’s actually possible to post comments on external sites (WordPress blogs, for example) using your Facebook account. Still think the idea that Facebook will ultimately represent the platform through which most people interact with the Internet is crazy or unrealistic? Then head on over to TechCrunch by clicking here, see how they’ve implemented this system and let me know if you still think that Facebook is just another fad site like MySpace or Twitter 😉

Yikes, the only problem I see is maybe some commenters want to stay anonymous and not link their fb profile to their comment.

    Hello,

In our opinion your Thinking completely ignores The Powerfull Underlying Market Forces that Do Not favor Facebook. You will know this eventually if you take your FAD Blinders OFF.

    Hello,

In your opinion, what are “The Powerfull (by the way, it’s “Powerful” and not “Powerfull”) Underlying Market Forces” (TM) that make Facebook nothing more than a fad?

  4. Jeff Schneider Says:

    Hello Andrei, CUTE

    Glad you asked.

Its easily explained in one sentence. Social Sites are easily Replicated, Therefore Their Business Models Obsolesce quite rapidly as is happening right now. Do I have to spell this out for you or do you understand Marketing Concepts.

Gratefully, Jeff Schneider (Contact Group) (Metal Tiger)

  5. Andrei Says:

@Jeff: a lot of your opinions are interesting but seriously, lose the “Gratefully…” signature because blog comment discussions are all about being casual (and even if you want to come across as professional, it’s possible to do it without going overboard IMO) and I’ve noticed people saying this on other blogs as well recently, a signature like yours tends to be irritating after a while and as a result, quite a few folks don’t take your opinions seriously because of it (and that’s a shame because a lot of them are worth analyzing in my opinion).

Now back to our debate, you said something that’s valid for pretty much any social website out there: “Social Sites are easily Replicated”

I said “pretty much any social website out there” and not “all of the social websites out there” because in my opinion, Facebook is an exception.

MySpace is a social media site.
Digg and reddit are social media sites.
Twitter is a social media site.

All of these sites can be cloned rather easily but Facebook is not like them, it’s a PLATFORM rather than just a random website which can easily be replicated.

I’ve explained the difference between a random social media site and a platform here (I’ve also referred to fundamental innovations which FB puts on the table such as the open graph technology, for example):

    http://domainingtips.com/facebook-valuation.html

All in all, the conclusion is quite simple in my opinion: what you’re saying about replicability is 100% accurate when it comes to most popular social media sites out there but not when it comes to Facebook.

IMO, Facebook will eventually represent the platform (I’m repeating this word obsessively because therein lies the key to understanding what makes Facebook different) through which the average Joe interacts with the Internet and that’s impressive to say the least.

    Hello Andrei,

You are entitled to your wrong opinion and the future will show this.

As far as my signature Brand , what in effect you are saying is that in your opinion there is no room for Civility in YOUR WORLD . Who Cares !

Gratefully, Jeff Schneider (Contact Group) (Metal Tiger)

  7. Andrei Says:

@Jeff: if you have some facts to back up your statements, I’d be interested in analyzing them or, of course, we could limit ourselves to a “you’re wrong, just wait and see” conclusion if that’s what you’d prefer.

Oh and as far as your signature is concerned, it’s possible to be civilized and casual at the same time. Since our industry is not exactly huge, I personally prefer being casual. As others have stated on numerous other occasions when you’ve commented on various blogs, the “Gratefully…” thing is a bit too much and in my opinion, a lot of people stop taking you seriously because of it even if your comments are interesting.

  8. Jeff Schneider Says:

    Hello Andrei,

You are a real glutton for punishment we see. I myself alone have forty years experiencial backing. The facts I share with you will only be refuted by you so whats the deal. My Signature that bothers you, is a professional Trade mark, because my content has value. I would be a fool not to take advantage of it.

Why you attack me on foolish precepts shows your lack of experience. By the way this CASUAL thing you throw at us can easily be explained in one sentence.

Casual people in the Business Arena become CASUALTIES.

Gratefully, Jeff Schneider (Contact Group) (Metal Tiger)

  9. Andrei Says:

@Jeff: well, that’s what debates are all about. Two people with different opinions engaging in a civilized exchange of ideas. Without debates, people would just limit themselves to the “I’m right, you’re wrong, just wait and see” approach I’ve referred to previously (in other words, there would be no substance involved) and the Internet would be a lot more boring if that were to happen 🙂

And there’s nothing wrong with branding yourself when commenting on various blogs, I simply tried to explain a message that other people tried to get across when interacting with you through various blogs: your signature has a “he’s trying *too* hard to be professional” vibe and because of it, some folks don’t take your comments seriously. I hope you did not interpret my comment as a personal attack because it wasn’t meant to be rude in any way, it’s just my honest opinion (and I’m not the only one who made this suggestion) that dropping the signature would be a good decision.

  10. Jeff Schneider Says:

    Hello Andrei

Peace Brother ! Just because I have differing opinions than others as you point out, its O K .

Actually I owe you, because if you had not questioned my professionalism, I would not have had the chance to display some of my credentials.

Now on the Signature Thing ? Lots of people ignore the Branding Power Of Blog Comments. The few who have a problem with it ? might consider changing their minds in their actual favor.

Gratefully, Jeff Schneider (Contact Group) (Metal Tiger)

  11. Andrei Says:

@Jeff: I never questioned your professionalism, I actually did the opposite by explaining that you’re *too* professional haha. But that’s just my opinion and I’m glad you didn’t consider it a personal attack because that was definitely not my intention.
