Domain Renewal Coupons?

Posted on 05 August 2013 by Andrei

I share coupons through my blog at least once a week but the thing is, all of them are for new registrations or transfers. Therefore, it’s understandable that people are wondering where all of the renewal coupons are.

Unfortunately, the answer isn’t what most people were hoping for: there usually are no “amazing” renewal coupons.

Don’t get me wrong, there are renewal coupons that bring the price down to the wholesale cost (in other words, the registrar breaks even) but that’s pretty much it.

For example, everyone knows that there are often $0.99 coupons for new regs or transfers at GoDaddy.

I don’t know about you guys but I don’t recall ever seeing a similar coupon for renewals.

I’m sure you understand that registrars have to make money at some point and at the end of the day, that’s why amazing renewal coupons are hard to come by.

Registrars are willing to lose money in order to convince you to hop on board by registering a domain or transferring domains from your current registrar to them but they aren’t willing to lose money on renewals as well. Some of them are occasionally willing to break even or thereabouts but that’s pretty much it 🙂

Agreed. Occasionally there will be .com renewal coupons that put the price on par with GoDaddy’s domain discount club – $8.29 + .18 ICANN fee but in my experience they are rare especially for large quantities of domains.

If you purchase the domain discount club membership for a year and find a 30%+ discount promo code to use on it, the total is only about $5-$6 per month and you won’t have to worry about looking for promo codes for .com renewals which will be $8.47.

Also, if you are a premier service customer you will sometimes get offered renewals for slightly less through your account rep when 100+ domains are renewed at the same time which is a nice bonus.
