You probably noticed that GoDaddy is promoting new gTLDs pretty aggressively and you probably also noticed that in the past, they’ve shown somewhat of an affinity towards alternative TLDs.
A good example would be the two superbowl ads everyone saw not so long after dot co went live: one was the GoDaddy ad we were all used to and one was an ad that had pitching dot co as its main goal.

One of the biggest differences between domainers (or I’d say investors in general) who do well and domainers who don’t is the fact that those who do well are willing to change their opinion when they come across facts which prove that they were wrong.
They swallow their pride, admit they were wrong and change/calibrate their strategy accordingly.

I don’t think I read a post about this specific topic so far, so I thought I’d go ahead and publish one today. As a domainer, you will communicate with resellers and/or end users from all over the world.
Therefore, understanding that you have to calibrate your approach based on the cultural particularities of the person you are talking to is extremely important.

As strange as it may sound yes, you can.
Last year, I started offering brokerage services for short domains such as LLL dot coms in exchange for a 3% commission but I only accept domains which are priced for a quick sale.

I have to admit, receiving a healthy payment each month *and* getting to keep your asset sounds great but to be perfectly honest, I have mixed feelings about the potential of leasing domains.
Let me explain why.

First of all, I’m referring to investment grade short domains as in quad premium LLLL dot coms at the very least (so quad premiums, CVCVs, LLLs, NNNs etc.).
Personally, I wouldn’t buy anything less valuable than a quad premium and I explained why at the beginning of November.

A lot of domainers are extremely satisfied with their ROI when buying a domain for a low price or even hand registering it, then contacting a bunch of potential end users and ultimately selling for mid-high 3 figs to low 4 figs.
In most cases, they shouldn’t be all that satisfied because after crunching the numbers and factoring in the amount of time they spent finding the domain(s), contacting end users and closing the deal(s), they’d come to the conclusion that the amount they’re paying themselves per hour isn’t all that high.

End user sales are doing ok but the reseller (domainer to domainer) market hasn’t picked up as spectacularly as the stock market, for example. In my opinion, that might actually be a good thing and I will try to explain why.

Sorry guys but the Forbes article is spot on, you should just let all of your domains expire and stop wasting your time/money.
But you know what, since I want to do you a favor and help you out, I’d be willing to take all of the domains you paid $xxxx+ for off your hands and pay you a more than reasonable cent on the dollar.

Believe it or not, there are lots of similarities.
Back in October, I explained that one of Warren Buffett’s famous quotes (“It’s far better to buy a wonderful company at a fair price than a fair company at a wonderful price”) makes perfect sense when it comes to domains as well.
Today, I’ll take things one step further and use the Black Friday analogy to explain that buying something useless just because it’s “on sale” is worse than not buying anything at all.
