I’m an Orthodox Christian but this year, Catholic Christians are celebrating Easter on the same day (this doesn’t always happen, sometimes the dates coincide but sometimes they differ), so I’d like to take advantage of this opportunity to wish everyone all the best.

I’ve noticed an interesting thing about domainers or to take things one step further, investors in general. Most of them seem to think they can predict the future and if their ego got a boost after being right in the past… watch out 🙂

The debates are beginning to heat up when it comes to new gTLDs and during such debates, a lot of domainers are unfortunately using strong words without realizing that they’re far from objective when it comes to the matter at hand.

Now sure, the “super premiums” probably won’t be affected but let’s be honest, not even the best domainers have portfolios that consist only of amazing domains. Pretty much everyone has “so-so” domains and it’s precisely those domains that will be affected by new gTLDs.

Your initial reaction might be something along the lines of “Why do I need *two* screens?” and it’s understandable, I had a similar one but after I started using two screens, I never looked back. Domainers hear this statement from successful investors time and time again, yet I don’t think most of them give it too much thought. When you hear about a blockbuster domain sale, you’re tempted to say something along the lines of “sure but the seller is a veteran, I could have never pulled it off” as if the transaction in question somehow involved magic.

Let me just give you one quick example: I don’t “understand” NNNN dot coms. To be honest, I don’t consider them all that memorable and for the most part, am reasonably confident that a lot of people (with notable exceptions such as individuals from China) would find your domain confusing should you choose to use a NNNN dot com as your brand.

Now sure, the “I wonder what this guy did with my domain?” temptation is definitely there but should you actually go through the trouble of checking what happened after the sale? I have mixed feelings about this because in my opinion, there are two “dimensions” we need to be aware of.
