The sale of 101Domain.com to Affilias is a win-win situation IMO, I’d like to congratulate both parties and wish them all the best.
101Domain has been a DomainingTips advertiser for many years and I’ve personally used them successfully for exotic registrations such as ccTLDs and new gTLDs. They’ve carved a nice niche (see what I did there?) for themselves by branding themselves as the go-to guys for anything exotic.
Dealing with lots of ccTLDs (some of them with idiotic regulations) and new gTLDs is anything but easy but they’ve proven over the years that they can handle this delicate juggling act. I have a lot of respect for what the 101Domain team has accomplished and am convinced that they’ll continue representing an excellent choice for domainers after the Afilias acquisition.
Haven’t had the pleasure of establishing a relationship with anyone from Afilias yet but hey, I’ll get a chance to do it once it’s time for them to renew their DomainingTips ad deal haha. Based on what I’ve heard about them, they seem to know what they’re doing and this acquisition will prove to be very wise in my opinion.
There’s a lot of competition among registrars these days but make no mistake, finding a company that knows its stuff when it comes to ccTLDs for example is anything but easy. Yes, registering/transferring/renewing a dot com or a dot net is a piece of cake but dealing with more exotic extensions often isn’t!

I chose 101domain for a few alt extensions and had a terrible experience with everything. When you use good registrars over the years you get used to a good service and easy management. Not with 101domain
