Let’s Help Chris Out

Posted on 03 September 2015 by Andrei

Unfortunately, things that quite frankly suck sometimes happen… life happens.

Chris, a fellow domain investor, is going through a very rough time. He emailed me and describe the desperate situation he and his disabled mother are in. Liquidating his portfolio and asking for donations are basically his only options at this point and I offered to share his story with you guys.

If you’re currently in a good place financially, don’t forget about those who aren’t.

I’ll leave you with the story Chris shared, it contains his email address so that you can contact him directly:

An appeal to all fellow domainers. – Thanks for reading and thanks for your time.

Hi,

My name is Chris Maurice and I am a  domainer who has unexpectedly come across a situation very few come across.

I am not just getting evicted, but my Mom as well. She is 78 and now completely disabled. The video below is from last year, when she could at least walk. Now she cannot after suffering a stroke episode.

I am her only caregiver, so I have to do everything for her; bathe, change, clean after her, prepare meals.

She does not want to be in a hospice as she tells me, she won’t survive there for long.

My dad passed away a year and a half ago so it is my responsibility to care for her and give her a decent life leading up to her death. I will do all I can to not give her grief at this stage of her life.

I am posting my bank screenshots so no one should think this is in anyway a sales tactic. This sales post is 100% genuine. I am doing this for my mom so she should keep her home. An eviction will be traumatic for her well being and her recovery.

If you truly wish to help, please do so. the domains I am offering are decent. I do make sales out of it for a good penny when an end user comes along. But right now, I have just 1 day to honor our rent without getting an eviction notice.

If you wish to help us, you can buy the portfolio at listed prices or a donation will be deeply appreciated. Anything you can so I can at least raise $865 by tomorrow September 12th. At some point, when I do well in life, I will honor any donations back to the donor. I will stand by your help in gratitude.

Please bear in mind, we have very little time, so a swift transaction is appreciated.

I have posted the lowest I can sell the domains for as after selling my entire portfolio, I will have nothing to bank on to care for mom.

Each domain is priced at $300 each for convenience.

or

The entire portfolio of 87 name is available for $15000 A great deal. for approx $172 per name. There are gems in there if you know how to develop, find end users you can make a tidy profit from the portfolio.

I can honestly say, many names in there can easily sell for $5k a piece,

You may NOT need it, but I’d be grateful if you can buy to help us out. This is the reason I am putting out my portfolio for sale.

Sincere regards,
Chris

My email is mywonderjam at gmail

I prefer PayPal for individual domains and Escrow if you buy the portfolio. Buyer pays escrow fees. If a name is sold from the portfolio, I shall reduce the price of $175 per name sold is you choose to buy the entire portfolio.

Please help my mom.

For donors,

I will have your email on file and will make every attempt to give back the funds when I do well in the future. That is a promise.

Thank you for taking your time to read my appeal. Whatever you can do will save a fellow domainer and his mom from losing their apartment.

Without it, it will be impossible to take care of life;s functions. I hope you will empathize with us.

Those worthless domains are not going to help you get donations.
Let those domains expire so u can pay your rent next time.
Remove those videos…not going to help in getting donations.
You have fridge full of food and you are wearing a Boss tshirt.

Ask your local church for help.
Visit your local department of human services and temporary assistance for help.

A quick/general word from someone who takes a special interest in people who look for “donations” via (domaining.com) a domain blog. The majority of readers I’d safely say are internet savvy, so it doesn’t take all that much time/effort to dig up what’s necessary to make an informed donation. Whois, social media, etc., etc, if need be.

If someone is really in need of money, and time is of the essence, they wouldn’t waste time fielding offers. They’d do what anyone in need of money does that has domains and a motive to help somebody out, they’d auction them off, no reserve. That would make the most sense to me. You may not get what you “want”, but you’ll get what you “need”.

When it’s 50 fold cheaper to make a donation than it is to purchase just an ordinary domain, it really just doesn’t add up. In that case, I’d say pay what any other investor would pay to have their portfolio plugged on the feed.

Again, generally speaking here. But more so specifically now, if any buyer wants 90 names for $15,000, let me know. I’m sure I could thin out the herd a bit.

    Hello Anunt,

The fridge is tiny and holds 2 weeks worth of food for us. Does that bother you? That was last year. We don;t have much now. The church and social services do not help with rent unless occupants get homeless.

All in all, a very cruel thing to say. I pray you and your family members get by life comfortably nary of pain and sorrow, either physical or psychological. I sincerely mean that.

  4. Eric Borgos Says:

I think you should try auctioning off the domains on Flippa. You can have the auction expire in 5 days, so you get paid in time for your deadline, and it does not need to be no reserve, but it could be a low reserve. You can still put all the text listing the reasons you need money fast, and maybe people will bid just to help.

Some of those domains are good, but the problem is the auction/liquidation value is way way lower than what you would get selling them one by one to end users. If you do not get any individual sales in the next 24 hours the way you are doing it, an auction with a low reserve is your best bet.

  5. Chris Says:

Eric, thanks for your input. I have less than 24 hours and no funds at all to attempt an auction. This offer is not about domain sales in the the manner how we offer domains for sale. It’s about our circumstances. I can even offer a buy back for a 10% premium if someone buys a few just to help us out.
