As a person who earns a living online, I’ve had the privilege of meeting bright people from all corners of the world. An interesting trait that I’ve identified among smart people is the tendency to think… too much. The huge amount of information available online makes it easy to develop a mindset which revolves exclusively around gaining information. Learning, reading, re-reading.

But what about doing?

Being knowledgeable is great and everything but don’t make the mistake of thinking that just because you’re reading/learning, you’re “out there”… that’s just not true.

If you end up becoming addicted to the learning process, you’ll end up deriving a sense of accomplishment from being an observer as opposed to a doer.

Learning isn’t easy but the real exam you have to face is being “out there”… risking your money, your time, your reputation. Keep that in mind. The easiest way to avoid failure is not doing anything. If you limit yourself to simply being an observer, all of the world’s problems seem “easy”… you probably have a solution to the world’s economic problems, to your favorite basketball team’s issues, to your country’s political situations and so on.

But commenting and criticizing is always easier than doing.

A LOT easier.

Things that looks great on paper can end up not working in the real world.

Before criticizing others, ask yourself: what have *I* done, have *I* found AND successfully implemented a better solution?

If the answer to question #2 is “no”, there you have it.

Be a doer, not just an observer.

There are a lot of extremely bright people in our industry and if more and more people become doers, all of us will be better off.
