A “Facebook Ads” Platform COULD Save the Parking Industry

Posted on 31 October 2011 by Andrei

In my opinion, an advertising platform powered by Facebook would represent excellent news for our industry. I was one of the first advertisers back when FB launched its self-serve platform (you could only advertise on Facebook and they still haven’t made their platform available to third party publishers) and literally saw how the costs per click evolved from peanuts to impressive.

Facebook has access to lots of data about its members who are logged in, which makes it possible to deliver highly targeted ads. The result? Their traffic is worth considerably more than the traffic of let’s say a social media website which does not use such information for marketing purposes.

1 + 1 = 2

You guys are smart, so I’m sure you understand the implications:

1) a great revenue stream for specific types of domains (… for which traditional parking doesn’t generate decent results)

2) more competition (… which might convince Google and Yahoo to re-think their relationship with domainers)

… the list could go on and on.

At this point, Facebook doesn’t have a monetization platform for third party advertisers but in my opinion, it’s only a matter of time until that will change. As domainers, it’s in our best interest to publicly encourage such an approach for obvious reasons.

I believe there would be issues with this. It’s good for the monetization point of view but not really good for the advertiser.
I’ve been managing Facebook ads for clients & find the benefit compared to Paid Search or Display Ads is more detailed targeting of users.

The problem I see is that for accessing a domain outside of Facebook users are logged off of Facebook. If Facebook would retain their demographic data to display ads based on that data on other sites, I believe it would be a privacy issue for many.

If the domains didn’t show ads based on the user demographics then there wouldn’t be a benefit to advertisers.

    This is just my opinion.
