A reader recently asked me if I get lots of traffic when I post about coupons or discounts. To be honest, I don’t even care. The main reason why I write those posts is the fact that people often thank me, which leads me to believe that I’m doing a good job and that those posts are useful.
As a person who runs online businesses, I’ve noticed something interesting: when people are satisfied with a product/service, they usually don’t say thanks or something like that. In most cases, you only hear from most people when they’re *not* satisfied with something.
I admit, my behavior used to fit the same pattern but after spending years running online businesses, I’ve come to the conclusion that every now and then, saying thanks whenever someone shares some good information or whenever you’re satisfied with a product/service makes sense.
How many times have you thanked the account rep?
How many times have you thanked your hosting provider? (ok, I run DomainingServers.com, so I guess I’m a bit biased haha)
How many times have you thanked a blogger, forum member or whatever for sharing some interesting information?
The answer is probably “not enough”, it used to be that way in my case as well but since I started running businesses and understanding just how hard it is to keep people satisfied, I thank people waaaaaaay more often than in the past.
The point of this post is this: there’s a real person behind each email address, username or whatever. It may not seem much but believe me, saying thanks is very important and the person on the receiving end will surely appreciate it.
