First of all, let’s assume that the world won’t end in 2012, I’m pretty sure none of my readers believe it will. That being stated, I’m genuinely curious what your predictions for 2012 are when it comes to:
1) the domaining industry
2) the worldwide economy
I’ll start:
1) When it comes to the domaining industry, one word describes my prediction for next year assuming that no jaw-dropping alternatives to Google as a monetization solution will emerge: stagnation.
2) Now as far as the worldwide economy is concerned, I’m not exactly optimistic. In my opinion, 2012 will be even worse than 2011 because the world’s governments are making waaaaaaay to many unreasonable decisions. Will the proverbial s*it hit the fan in 2012? I doubt it but nonetheless, I’m pretty sure it will be a worse year for the worldwide economy than 2011. I’d love to be proven wrong though.
What do you guys think?

Agreed that domain industry will do well in 2012. Here is why and in fact the greatest thing about being in the domain industry.
If like ourselves you concentrate on end user sales your market is global and even if monetizing traffic is you thing the global effect still is in your favor.
Couple that with as you also pointed out there are developing countries with real dreams and who have need for our names and knowledge and consulting services etc.
Not many other businesses with a low entry point can claim a global market IMO.
Patience whether you are a domainer or in any other type of business will be the determining factor regarding what the next five years will produce for you. Bail now as some are and will do and you may be looking back saying coulda woulda shoulda IMO

1) Domain industry won’t change much during next year, there will be some record sales for genetic terms that are not sold yet and some large companies will decide to take over some brandable domain.
The rest will hope to sell some 3-4 word keyword domains with no monthly searches and will still suffer and complain that they can’t sell anything. Many will get lucky with brandable domain names as the Tech bubble will continue.
2) World economy needs to get down again due to fact that not much have been learnt and Americans still own a fortune and keeps on buying new stuff and larger houses that they don’t need.
3) I will still develop domain names that are not EMD’s and will try to hit 400 websites and 1 million monthly visitors barrier.

Domaining Stagnation? You could not have it more wrong. Domain names shine in spotlight and are known to be investment of choice ! Stocks No!, Domains Yes !

@Jeff: I was referring to the domaining industry, in other words domain monetization + reseller market. When it comes to end user sales, I don’t have enough data at my disposal to make predictions. Based on the (limited) data I have, the end user market has been doing pretty good throughout this economic climate but the reseller market has seen better days 🙂

2012 will have rising inflation, social unrest, more pink slips and some countries dropping off Euro.
On the domaining front, MOBILE, SOCIAL, CLOUD names will rule and unheard of premiums being paid in these verticals

tablet domain names along with cloud will set new records.
inflation will go down
Job rate will hit 8 percent going down
the dollar will be the best to own.
Stock market will go down though boho

The island nation is called Xaymaca by its native inhabitants, which in Arawakan means either ôLand of Springsö or ôLand of Wood and Waterö. A compelling tourist attraction by itself, Jamaica actually owes its enormous and vibrant tourism industry to two persons namely, Bob Marley and Errol Flynn.
