I never quite understood this question, nor do I think it will ever have an answer.
First of all, we can’t even define the term “worth” from a domainer perspective.
Is it “worth” as in the amount you’d be able to fetch by selling all of your domains on the reseller market right away?
Is it “worth” as in the amount you’d obtain if you were to hypothetically sell all of them to end users at their BIN price?
Maybe somewhere in the middle?
Again, I don’t think there is an answer to this question.
The only thing you can kinda-sorta approximate is the reseller market value of a portfolio (this works better for certain types of domains such as LLL dot coms than for others) but I don’t think a portfolio’s reseller market value is what it’s “worth” and I’m sure most of you see things the same way.
If anything, I’d say the end user value is what a domain is ultimately “worth” but since the end user value of a portfolio cannot be accurately approximated, it’s a pointless endeavor.
Therefore, the “How much is your portfolio worth?” question doesn’t make a lot of sense because it’s not relevant and it’s not relevant because “worth” is a very subjective term.
This is a great example of a metric that may be a decent conversation subject or a decent topic for a press release but which is ultimately irrelevant because calculations or even approximations are impossible.Advertisement: DomainingServers.com lets you host UNLIMITED domains at $0.98/month and we're putting a LIFETIME money back guarantee on the table (if you're not satisfied, we'll issue a full refund).
