That probably the best idea on this thread. Forget forums. They are so early to 2000’s.. What this industry needs is a social network so we don’t have to keep talking to each other on the comment sections of blogs.

Just pay special attention to fraud, there will be attempts I’m sure. Maybe you could always organize monthly contests with prizes like $500 for the top member of the month. So you’ll have your main contest with the very large prizes but aside from it invest a couple of hundreds monthly in prizes to reward the active members which help the community the most through their posts.

Giving away so much money represents a shock factor but also think quantity. Use $10k for the top 3 prizes like your original idea was but also spend another $5k on a lot of smaller prizes. 25 $250 prizes would also be an incentive.

Here’s a idea for you, build a domaining social community using free open source software… wordpress mu and buddypress with bbpress.

I wouldn’t give $10K to domainers. They are cheap and wouldn’t appreciate it!

Why start a new forum? You must have reasons if you were thinking about it…start with those ideas/changes…what would separate you from others?

I always thought as domainers progress and get better and more successful in the trade, the forums become less important.

Have something that separates you and best of luck.

For the contest, reward the members which contribute the most but it would be hard to pick the winners. If you try a voting system, people would be able to register other accounts and influence the vote in their favor. For prizes of that magnitude, even registering 1000 accounts could be worth it.

I would like to see an invite only forum. I think that would help keep out the fluff.

Yes, it could get to the point where people are selling invites , but if it gets to that point, it could be dealt with.

A filtered marketplace, have a separate folder for useless domains and as for the rest of them hire a moderator to weed through the domains and only publish threads which don’t defy logic.
