In my opinion, yes.
If it’s one thing the domaining industry needs, it’s strong sales venues.
We need innovation and I’m pleased to say that after years of stagnation, we’re starting to see just that.
The introduction of Afternic’s and Sedo’s MLS system is one example of a relatively recent innovation. All of a sudden, you were able to take advantage of the audience registration companies have.
Someone tries to hand register YourDomain.com at let’s say RegistrarX, the domain in taken but instead of simply seeing a “domain not available” message, potential end users see the domain available as a premium listing.
Simple and at the same time brilliant.
I hope that after GoDaddy’s acquisition, we’ll continue to see good things from Afternic as well as all competitors.
The stronger our industry’s sales venues are, the better and in my opinion, that’s exactly what GoDaddy’s acquisition will accomplish.
Afternic will become stronger, competitors will adapt/become stronger as well and ultimately, we as domainers will be on the receiving end.
