I highly recommend www.meebo.com - check it out...it allows you to aggregate all your IM platforms into one, so you can chat with anyone regardless of the platform they use, all at once (e.g., Yahoo, AIM, Gtalk, etc.).

Plus, you can make yourself completely 'invisible' to the outside world if you don't feel like chatting or are too busy, while at the same time, watching to see who is available to chat with, so you can make yourself known only to those you want to let know you are online.

Good luck!

I stopped using such softwares few years ago.
There is allways someone you know that have nothing to do and that will ask you to chat as soon you are online.
At the begining it's funny but after you really cannot do anything... And when you cut the conversation or kindly explain you are really busy it's not always understood.

Damir -- If you are using good firewall, anti-spyware and an anti-virus, you should not have any problems. I have been using IMs on the same computers which I do financial transactions on without ever having a problem.

Interesting post there about the Online chat / messaging software.

I am not sure about others but I have one pc which I only use for communications via ms / yahoo messenger, skype, icq and other software.

This kind of software exposes the vulnerability of windows xp pro operating system.

So due to security reasons I would not recommend users to use the communications software if they use the computer to do online financial transactions.
