I’ll be sharing 22 discount codes with you guys today, 10 of them should work worldwide (as opposed to only for customers from the US/Canada) and as far as the remaining 12 are concerned, I’m not sure.
Didn’t use any of them myself, so I can’t guarantee they’ll work.

Do I think legacy TLDs (Dot Info, Dot Biz and so on) will be affected by new gTLDs in a negative manner? Yes, I do.
Do I think legacy TLDs will be affected by new gTLDs in a positive manner? Yes, I do.
Now that everyone’s confused, it’s time to explain why my answer to both questions was “yes” and try to put things in perspective.

Yesterday, I wrote a post about the fact that in my opinion, geo new gTLD (especially city new gTLDs, as Christopher Hofman pointed out in a comment) are clearly outperforming niche new gTLDs (such as Dot Furniture) but wait a second… what’s a niche new gTLD?

The first results for the newly launched Dot Hamburg (large German city) are in and after the first day of General Availability, there are 13,793 domains. Solid results and all in all, I can’t remember any geos about which you can say that they were a flop.

I wrote a post entitled “Should Domain Forums Have a Marketplace Section for New gTLDs?” on Monday and the following day, a reader noticed that such a section was just added over at NamePros.

To give you an example, there will be 4 law-related extensions initially: Dot Attorney, Dot Law, Dot Lawyer and Dot Legal. Since we also have singular/plural-related issues such as Dot Accountant vs. Dot Accountants, I’m reasonably confident that in the future, we’ll also have a Dot Attorneys new gTLD as well as a Dot Lawyers one.

I’m quite surprised that at this point, domain forums don’t have a marketplace section for new gTLDs. It would be an important step towards generating reseller market activity, so the fact that there’s no such thing yet is definitely not good at all for the new extensions.

I think we’ll be dealing with the busiest week in terms of launches since I started covering new gTLDs: 6 landrush phases, 4 Early Access Program phases and 7 General Availability phases.

Good week for coupon enthusiasts, a decent number of discount codes (16) and to top it all off, all of them aside from four should work internationally, so not just for customers from the US/Canada.

The Dot Investments new gTLD has 877 registrations after the first day of General Availability and while that number is not exactly impressive, the registry did reasonably well financially. Why? Because a .investments domain costs about 2x – 3x more than most new gTLDs.
